Homer Laughlin - Empress, Kwaker, Republic & Yellowstone at Hyacinth House

The Empress & Kwaker shapes were introduced around 1910. Their plain shape was a departure from the ornate Victorian styles prevalent around the turn of the century. Empress & Kwaker flatware is virtually indistinguishable, but the holloware styles are quite distinctive. Empress has rounded handles while Kwaker has an angular shape. Homer Laughlin introduced the Republic shape in 1915 and produced it for close to 50 years. It was based on the popular Haviland Ransom shape - scalloped with wing-like indents. Yellowstone was introduced in 1926 and produced for about 20 years. It is octagonal in shape and commonly found with a matte ivory vellum glaze. Most Homer Laughlin dinnerware has a date code under their backstamp, where the first two numbers indicate the year of production.

Kwaker gravy boat with attached plate, decorated with red & blue floral design on ivory border and metallic gold trim. There is a very short (less than 1/2") hairline inside the rim with some light discoloration, not visible from the outside. Beautiful, vibrant colors with no loss of gold.
